Job profile

CAFOD, one of the UK’s leading international aid agencies, is responding to the earthquake in Nepal as part of a coordinated response by the Caritas Internationalis Confederation. We are now looking for an Emergency Programme Officer (EPO) with expertise in Water and Sanitation and Shelter. This post will be based in London with frequent and initial travel to Nepal.

Job role

The EPO WASH and Shelter will contribute to the delivery of effective and high quality humanitarian programming in Nepal following the earthquakes in April/May 2015. Working with partners is central to CAFOD’s humanitarian response and the EPO WASH/Shelter will play an important role in the delivery of the Nepal emergency programme by the provision of WASH and Shelter technical support to Nepal emergency response partners.

The EPO will help our partners to deliver quality programming by providing technical support and training; assisting in the development and implementation of monitoring frameworks and ensuring that cross-cutting issues including gender, protection and accountability are addressed. As the programme develops they may work with partners to improve and develop their technical capacity to prepare for, mitigate the impact of, and respond to disasters. The EPO will provide technical expertise to the Caritas consortium and other CAFOD partners in the implementation of WASH and Shelter response work, ensuring compliance with international standards.

Your profile

With a qualification or equivalent work experience in an Engineering related field, you will have a significant track record of designing and implementing humanitarian WASH and Shelter responses, be compliant with international quality standards such as Sphere, HAP and Red Cross Code of Conduct. You are calm under pressure, excellent at building strong relationships and with a commitment to working in partnership.

As this is a UK-based role, candidates must have the right to work in the UK in order to be considered.
